Turmeric-matcha chai drink

This drink doesn’t look as pretty as a turmeric laté, but it’s a warming drink with a combination of the phytonutrient / antioxidant rich spices that have shown so many protective benefits to the health. This recipe avoids any ‘milks’ but uses MCT oil as the carrier for the fat-soluble components of the spices.

Ingredients:

1 tsp turmeric

½ tsp matcha powder

½ tsp cardamom

½ tsp ginger

½ tsp cloves

½ tsp cinnamon

½ krm black pepper (optional)**

½ krm cayenne pepper (optional)**

1 tsp MCT* oil (or coconut oil)

½ tsp honey (optional)

Boiled water.

* MTC (medium chain tryglycerides). A fraction of coconut oil with shorter chain fatty acids that can be taken up efficiently by the brain.

** black pepper (piperine) has been shown to facilitate curcumin uptake. Do not include these hot spices if you find that they are irritants to your digestive tract or you are strictly avoiding all Nightshades.

Method:

Boil water and allow to cool slightly.

Combine all powders in a glass or cup, add the oil and mix to combine. Add a small dash of water and mix well to a thick paste (you are encouraging fat-soluble nutrients to become solubilized in the oil). Add remaining water and stir. If you are adding honey, you can wait for it to cool a little or add a little cooler water before adding.

Alternative:you can prepare batches of your turmeric chai mix and freeze I cubes or store in the refrigerator (for about 5days). Combine larger volumes of turmeric and spices to taste, add oil and enough water to bring to a boil and simmer 10min, before allowing to simmer to reduce volume to a paste and allowing to cool. Then store in a jar I the refrigerator or freeze ice cubes to be used in drinks.


Gurkmeja-matcha chai drick


Ingredienser:

1 tsk gurkmeja

½ tsk matcha pulver

½ tsk kardamumma

½ tsk ingefära

½ tsk nejlika

½ tsk kanel

½ krm svart pepper (valfrit)

½ krm kajanpeppar (valfrit)

1 tsp MCT* oil (or coconut oil)

½ tsk honong (valfrit)

Kokat vatten

Method:

Kocka upp vattnet.

Kombinera alla pulver/kryddor i ett glas eller kopp, lägga till oljan och rör om för att kombinera. Läg till en skvatt hett vatten och rör om för att forma en tjock pasta (man vill uppmuntra fettlösliga fytonäringsämnen att lössas upp i oljan). Lägg till mer vattn och för om. Om du ska lägga till honon, gärna vänta lite tills det svlanar eller lägg till lite kallt vatten så att det är en drickbart temperatur.
